At best, it stalls you. It keeps you stuck. Lying can certainly make things worse.
The consequences of not being honest, of pretending like you don't know what you know (like, *really* know), is a life that can quickly become meaningless, vapid and existentially dead.
For starters, be honest about your part in your problems. Hint: your part is usually the thing you LEAST want to be true.
