Priorities?
I recently heard someone talk about the inherent contradiction in the word "priorities."

Basically, there's no such thing! Priority is singular. It is, by definition, the most important thing. Somehow we've reworked our understanding of rank-order into thinking there are multiple number ones, multiple top concerns, multiple priorities.
This is complex. We all have competing concerns, no doubt, and the priority is supposed to be the one that wins out. And the priority is context-dependent. While I say that my priority for Monday is to get my bookkeeping in line, that will change should aliens land in my front yard.
A changing priority isn't a problem. In fact, it's probably healthy.
But multiple priorities? No such thing.
What would happen today if you had one priority?
